CV - BRIGITTE WILLACH Brigitte Willach was born January 19th 1949 in Linz, Austria. Since 1970, she has lived and worked in Hannover. At the age of fifteen, she first started to experiment with the fascinating wax-resist and dyeing art process called BATIK. This medium became the focus of her artistic profession. She uses it to create an aura of her thoughts and feelings. Batik is now a substantial part of her life. The artistic oeuvre is the reflection of an intensive analysis of the art form Batik. This technique generates from Asia but increasingly conquers the art scene of Europe and the USA. Realistic motifs are transformed associatively, the impression becomes the expression of light and colour. The abstract paintings are a result of not only thoughts but also of feelings and experiences which surround her. Many of her images are influenced through her travels in Europe and the USA, especially Arizona. During the last twenty years, she has designed many Batik exhibitions in Germany and abroad. It was in 1985 that she first experienced the process of this unique medium in its native country of Indonesia. Since that time, she and the country have had a very intense connection. Her special love belongs to Central Java, particularly the city of Jogjakarta. Over the years, many Batik artists and Batik experts there have become friends. She has studied design, ornamentation, and the dyeing process of traditional Indonesian batiks and Ikats, and has amassed an unusual and museum quality personal collection of these textiles. In 1997, Ms Willach attended a very special exhibition of Batik in Indonesia under the patronage of the Indonesian government . Since then she participated as a juror and speaker in different Batik Symposia and Conferences. For one month In February 2002 Hannover became a centre for Batik. Ms. Willach organized the exhibition BATIK OF CHANGE. She invited batik artists from all over the world, and Indonesian designers for this event. Brigitte Willach’s art work has now established itself in Germany and Indonesia. She has even become an ambassador for Batik all over the world. |
